The 49ers get into the Monday morning news cycle early by adding veteran safety Tony Jefferson. The veteran safety has had a successful career for the most part, playing with the Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens.
However, in 2019 the safety tore his ACL against the Steelers and hasn't made his way back on the field since.
The 29 year old will look to compete for a key depth role and potentially the starting safety position across from Jimmie Ward.
Jefferson's career stats:
It will be interesting to find out if Jefferson is simply a camp body or someone who can seriously compete for a final spot on the final 53 man roster.
We haven't seen Jefferson play since October of 2019 so it could really go either way. With young talent trying to secure a future role with the team at the safety position (Marcell Harris, Tarvarius Moore, Jared Mayden, etc.) it will be interesting to see if Jefferson can carve out a role on this defense.
